The Collaboration. Kosuke Kawamura is a graphic designer from Hiroshima, Japan. Perhaps best known for his collages - created by splicing similar images together - Kawamura collaborated with various fashion houses over the years before becoming the Creative Director of one of Uniqlo’s sub-brands. 

The Collage. It was his ability to create something new out of old designs that inspired Seiko to work with him in 2022. His two limited releases combine elements of the 7015-6010 Time Sonar and the 6119-8300 Rally Driver.

The Design. The Time Sonar contributes the playful colours and smoky dial, while the Rally Driver lends its sporty, racing-inspired case architecture and bezel. Kawamura’s interpretation is very much his own, as neither watch fully informs the design. Instead, he employs the collage technique of rearranging fragments of the familiar into something new. 

The Result. It’s a modern Seiko, so it had to compete with dozens of other designs at the time of its release - but its sporty-vintage look and distinct colour palette quickly made it a favourite with collectors.
